An Atlantic cruise-ship case has put hantavirus back in international debate. Per WHO and major agencies' current working hypothesis, infections were contracted before boarding and then spread through direct person-to-person contact — not via HVAC systems. Even so, GSA News raises the wider question for closed environments (ships, hotels, warehouses, hospitality, industrial sites): rodent control, sanitation, and HVAC maintenance remain the primary prevention levers. Mortality from HPS (lung) or HFRS (renal) can reach 50% — no vaccines or specific therapies exist; treatment is supportive.
