US electricity demand to grow 55% by 2050 — data centres hit 38% of net consumption through 2037: NEMA
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association now forecasts US annual electricity consumption rising from 3,936 TWh in 2024 to 6,130 TWh in 2050. Data centres alone are projected to account for 38% of net consumption through 2037, with their demand jumping 300% in the next decade. NEMA points to grid-enhancing technologies, demand response and behind-the-meter resources as the route to closing the gap.
